A little bit about us

Our aim

The Charlbury Railway Children has been open in Oxfordshire since September 2004. We offer a warm, friendly, loving environment for your children to learn and grow.

Our aim is to provide a stimulating, secure and friendly environment for you to leave your children with confidence. We endeavour to keep your child happy and relaxed while they are with us so they can learn and develop. Based in Charlbury in Oxfordshire, we provide for you high quality affordable childcare and offer a service that promotes equality and values diversity.

We maintain the ratio of adults to children set by the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, which are: one adult to three children under two years, one adult to four children under three years, and one adult to eight children aged between 3 and 5 years. This helps us to:
  • Give time and attention to each child
  • Talk with the children about their interests and activities
  • Help children to experience and benefit from the activities we provide
  • Enable the children to explore and be adventurous in safety
We have an experienced and skilled team of staff. They are committed to gaining qualifications and regularly undertake further training in early years care and education. In this way we can constantly improve the care we provide and stay up to date with current thinking. All our staff are checked by the DBS and are qualified First Aiders. We have policies and procedures which our team follow to help us provide a quality service. Our staff are dedicated to working in partnership with you as parents.

Child Profiles

Your child will be continuously assessed to ensure our curriculum meets their needs and so that their progress can be recorded. We keep a profile for each child. This helps us to celebrate together her/his achievements and to work together to meet your child’s needs for her/his well-being and development. You can request to see and discuss your child’s profile at any time. Staff and parents working together on children's profiles via the planning slip is one of the ways in which the nursery and parents can work in partnership. You and your child’s key person will collect information about your child’s needs, activities, interests and achievements. This information will enable the key person to identify your child’s stage of progress.
Communication
You are more than welcome to talk to our staff regarding any concerns you may have about your child’s time with us. The parent information board in each room enables continuous communication between parents and staff. We also use the Early Years Diary to communicate with you. These allow us to share information with you about your child’s day and also for you to share information with us e.g. your child’s routine, what they enjoy doing at home and what they have been doing at the weekend. Please speak to your child’s key person about their progress. For general information the nursery will provide a termly newsletter, and the notice boards in the reception area are for your information. If you have any queries about the day to day running of the nursery, please speak don't hesitate to contact us.
Individual planning
We plan for your child, taking into account their interests and achievements and we value your input into this individual planning. If you ever wish to see the planning, it is on the wall in the play room. Your children will learn through the play activities we plan for them. Play helps babies grow in confidence as they gain important social skills, learning how to interact with both children and adults.
