Children's education

Offering quality care to your children is one of the main priorities at The Charlbury Railway Children.
We focus on creating a loving environment where your child can learn, develop and explore the world around them.  Below is some information about our nursery in Charlbury, and how we focus on children's education whilst creating a nurturing, happy setting that allows children to flourish.

The menu

Food: Our home-made meals are freshly prepared each day by our cook. We encourage our children to have their 5 a day. Our two week rolling menu is displayed on our notice board in our reception area. Please ask the cook for food allergens advice. Our menus include lots of different fruit and vegetables and we offer a variety of different meats and a vegetarian option. Any dietary requirements can be discussed with our cook. We encourage healthy eating throughout the children’s daily activities to help meet the Early Years Foundation stage. This includes involving the children to help prepare their own snacks and meals.

Snacks: The children are provided with a healthy breakfast and mid morning and afternoon snack and the menu for lunch and tea is repeated fortnightly. Please tell us about your child’s dietary needs and we will ensure that they are met. Stage 1&2 /First Milk will be provided for your child to fit in with their personal routine. If your child requires Stage 3 /Follow On milk, then this should be provided by you. Water is made available throughout your child’s session. Our snack and mealtimes are:
  •  Breakfast - served between 8 am and 8:45 am for children who arrive early.
  •  Mid-morning snack - available from 10 am.
  •  Lunch - served at 11:45 am. This is a home cooked lunch prepared daily by Lisa (our nursery chef) in the nursery’s own kitchen.
  •  Tea - provided at 4 pm.

Medicine and sickness

We ask that you keep your child at home if they have any infections, and to inform us so that staff can alert other parents and make careful observations of any child who seems unwell. If, while in our care, your child develops an infectious illness e.g. chickenpox, you will be asked to collect your child. If your child is infected with head lice you will be notified, and advice on treatments can be given if required. If your child has been vomiting or had diarrhoea, you will be asked to keep your child at home until at least 48 hours have elapsed since the last attack. If your child requires antibiotics, we will administer them after the first 48 hours have elapsed. If we administer any medication to your child, we will need you to fill out a medication form. If your child has been sent home with a temperature of over 37.5 it is in our policy’s that you need to keep them off for 24 hours. We do not administer any non-prescribed medication, if a child has long term medical issues that need regular medication then we would work with the parents to devise a healthcare plan. The medication must be given to us in its original box with the name of your child and the dosage to be given on it.

Safeguarding

We support the children within our care, protect them from maltreatment and have robust procedures in place to prevent the impairment of children’s health and development.

Our nursery will work with children, parents, external agencies and the community to ensure the welfare and safety of children and to give them the very best start in life. Children have the right to be treated with respect and to be safe from any abuse in whatever form.

The Charlbury Railway Children has a clear commitment to protecting children and promoting welfare.  The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at the nursery is Anna Harper.
